Wearable – Wearable computers are computers that are worn on the body. They have been applied to areas such as behavioral modeling, health monitoring systems, information technologies and media development. Government organizations, military, and health professionals have all incorporated wearable computers into their daily operations. Wearable computers are especially useful for applications that require computational support while the user’s hands, voice, eyes or attention are actively engaged with the physical environment. One of the main features of a wearable computer is consistency. There is a constant interaction between the computer and user, ie. there is no need to turn the device on or off. Another feature is the ability to multi-task. It is not necessary to stop what you are doing to use the device; it is augmented into all other actions. These devices can be incorporated by the user to act like a prosthetic. It can therefore be an extension of the user’s mind and/or body.Such devices look far different from the traditional cyborg image of wearable computers, but in fact these devices are becoming more powerful and more wearable all the time. The most extensive military program in the wearables arena is the US Army’s Land Warrior system, which will eventually be merged into the Future Force Warrior system.

Geocoded Hypermedia – Geocoded hypermedia is information encoded with location coordinates and thus searchable by location. A few Web developers have begun to explicitly label Web documents, objects, media, with location coordinates (latitude and longitude) encoded in HTML in a metadata format, using pre-standard formats like GeoURL (a popular”bloggers” geotag, recently retired by the inventor). So far there are no widely accepted standards for annotating Web hypermedia with geocoordinates. However, several groups in the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) and IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) are approaching consensus on some of the necessary standard notations. With these standards, any content on the Web-text, graphics, media, applications-could ultimately be linked to one or more locations by geocoding. This “tagging” provides a broad palette for innovation and creative expression in the physical-digital landscape. Furthermore, geotagging is a distributed, bottom-up process, and it has the same emergent qualities as the World Wide Web. For these reasons, we expect geocoded hypermedia to be a major disruptive innovation, perhaps on the scale of the World Wide Web-with many unanticipated applications and social consequences. http://www.iftf.org/docs/SR_869_Infrastructure_New_Geog.pdf

Communicating Sensors – komunikační senzory – MEMS (micro-electromechanical systems) and the low cost, short range, wireless communications standard Bluetooth are by far the most important of the emerging technologies pushing the development of these sensors in the short run.

The promise of MEMS – using semiconductors to create analogue instruments – is the total integration of measurement, computing and communication on a single chip. The result will be more intelligent smart sensors that are also more durable, accurate, flexible and reliable.

Handheld Computing Device – Ruční počítací přístroje – A mobile device (also known as converged device, handheld device, handheld computer, “Palmtop” or simply handheld) is a pocket-sized computing device, typically comprising a small visual display screen for user output and a miniature keyboard or touch screen for user input. In the case of the personal digital assistant (PDA) the input and output are combined into a touch-screen interface. Smartphones and PDAs are popular amongst those who require the assistance and convenience of a conventional computer, in environments where carrying one would not be practical. The following are typical mobile devices:
Voice phone
Feature phone
Smart phone
Cordless phone
Bluetooth headset
Handheld game console
Portable media player (PMP)
Personal digital assistant (PDA)
Personal Navigation Device (PND)
Digital Still Camera (DSC)
Digital Video Camera (DVC or Camcorder)
Pager
eBook Reader
Notebook PC
Ultra-Mobile PC
